In recent years coconut oil has become something of a wonder product.  People are using it for health, beauty and food purposes. We all know the typical stuff that we see blasted about all the time like face moisturizing, high heat cooking, etc, but what else can you use coconut oil for?  As it turns out, lots of things!

Here are 15 unique uses for coconut oil that you can take advantage of:

1. Coffee Creamer Alternative

Some people use coconut oil place of coffee creamer.  I thought this one was crazy when I first heard it, but I have a friend who does it and loves it.

2. Fruit Smoothie Addition

Adding coconut oil to your fruit smoothie makes it extra creamy, plus gives it a boost of nutrients.

3. Popcorn Topping

Use coconut oil in place of butter for a healthier popcorn topping.

4. In Place Of Butter Or Oil In Baking

Replace the butter or oil that your recipe calls for with coconut oil.

5. Sports Drink

Most sports drinks are full of sugar, instead of buying them, create your own sports drink.  Add coconut oil, chia seeds and fruit to a cold glass of water for a healthy, hydrating drink.

6. Makeup Remover

Just a small amount of coconut oil can make makeup removal a breeze.

7. Skin Hydration

Yes, you can use it as a moisturizer, but how about applying it over your body after a shower?  This keeps the moisture from the shower locked into your skin.

8. Toothpaste

It’s amazing the number of things that can be used for toothpaste, isn’t it? Coconut oil is no different!  You can mix baking soda, coconut oil and peppermint essential oil to create homemade toothpaste.

9. Deodorant

Coconut oil makes excellent natural deodorant because of its natural antibacterial properties.

10. Sunscreen

I know with a name of “oil” you would expect the opposite, but coconut oil is actually quite a good natural sunscreen.

11. Dandruff Relief

Rub coconut oil on your scalp during your shower to help with dandruff.  Be sure to rinse well so that your hair isn’t oily.

12. Skin Scrub

Combine coconut oil with sugar to create a homemade sugar scrub.  It’s a bit like a spa day and really inexpensive.

13. Remove Gum

Have you ever fought to remove gum from your child’s hair?  Or from furniture? I have and it’s a pain. Use coconut oil to help unstick this mess.

14. Zipper Fixer

If you have a zipper than doesn’t want to move, try lubricating it with coconut oil.

15. Hairbrush Cleaner

Coconut oil rubbed into your hairbrush helps the hair slide off of the bristles easily.
