We’ve all been there. As we are checking out at the grocery store, we whip out your coupon and hand it over to the cashier just to find out that it is expiring today. Can you still use it? Does it vary from store to store?

Instead of going through that embarrassment again, you need to know, can coupons be used on its expiration date?

You can use coupons on their expiration date. Coupons are valid until the end of the day that it expires. So, if you have a coupon sitting at home that is good until July 1st, it can be used until the end of the day on July 1st. It becomes invalid on July 2nd.

Many things can be purchased at a discounted price whenever you use coupons making it a great way to save money. Groceries, clothes, auto service, etc, all offer coupons and it can add up to a lot of money over time. If you have coupons to use, you can spend less and save more money (or buy more).

As you go through your coupons, you notice that one is about to expire. It’s important to note that the coupon can still be used on the day that it expires. It is good until the end of that day. This includes in-store and online coupons.

So, if you were needing that certain something and didn’t want to pay full price for it, instead of tossing the almost expired coupon away, use it!

Now, you can defeat the purpose of the coupon if you spend money on an item when you don’t actually need it. If you have a coupon for something that you don’t need, it’s ok not to use it. It’s in your best interest to only use coupons for items that you need or want, that way you can actually save money to use toward other things instead of spending more money on things you don’t actually need.

But, if it was something already on your grocery list, a piece of clothing you’ve been wanting, or an auto service that you need to get done, then you can still use that coupon on the day that it expires.

So, if you are wondering if coupons can be used on their expiration date, yes, they can. But this is the last day that the coupon is valid and it becomes invalid the day after its expiration date.

Do Expired Manufacturer Coupons Work?

Every penny counts, especially in today’s economy. Coupons can help with this. But, if you have an expired manufacturer coupon (a coupon issued by the manufacturer for a particular time), you may be wondering if you can still use it.

Do expired manufacturer coupons still work?

Sometimes expired manufacturer coupons can still work. But, this all depends on the store, the type of coupons and the cashier. Some stores will either accept your expired coupon or find you a replacement you can use while others won’t accept any coupons that are even a day past the expiration date.

So, depending on the store, the type of coupon, or the cashier, sometimes you can still use expired coupons. They may even take it a day or two after the expiration date. While this isn’t always the case, you can at least try to use it.

It may still work out in your favor.

Places like Bed Bath and Beyond, Michaels, Staples, and Petsmart are known to accept expired coupons. But, it is more likely that they will accept their own expired coupons instead of manufacturer ones. If you aren’t sure if they will take the coupon, just remember, it never hurts to at least ask, right?

All coupons must have an expiration date and the barcode to scan. Now, if you cut off the coupon’s expiration date, stores will not accept them. But, don’t worry because there will always be new coupons coming out for you to use toward your purchases.

We say that the last day a coupon can be used is the day it expires, but there are times when it can be used after its expiration date. Either the cashier may give you the deal anyways or find a valid coupon to use instead, but expired manufacturer coupons can sometimes work.

Are There Coupons That Don’t Expire?

If you are on a tight budget or simply like to be thrifty with your money, you probably do a lot of couponing. But, it can get frustrating when you go to use a coupon and discover that it is already expired.

This can prompt the question, are there coupons that don’t expire?

There are some coupons that don’t ever expire. These include coupons enclosed in or attached to a product’s box, coupons found on no expiration offering websites, or even signing up for certain coupon alerts. Even though most coupons expire, there are some that don’t.

  • Coupons enclosed in or attached to a product’s box (such as Sally Hansen beauty products) usually don’t have an expiration date.
  • Sign up for coupon alerts. For example, when you sign up for cold and flu alerts with Robintussin, you get a $2 off coupon with no expiration date.

As you can see, there are coupons that don’t expire, it’s just a matter of finding them since most coupons will expire eventually.

What Can You Do With Expired Coupons?

Whether it is a few cents or a few dollars, coupons can go a long way in saving money. Do you have some coupons that you didn’t get a chance to use? Before you toss them in the trash, you should know what you can do with them.

So, what can you do with expired coupons?

If you aren’t sure what to do with expired coupons and have tried to use them but to no avail, you can donate them to military families. There are several websites that can help you send the expired coupons to military bases and even troops overseas.

As we mentioned earlier, some coupons can still be used, but if they can’t, then there is a way they can still be used by someone. So, don’t throw them away. Instead, you can send expired coupons to military families so that they can purchase items at a discounted price. Military families can use manufacturer coupons up to six months past their expiration date. So, you can help them out by following the instructions and sending them your old and expired coupons.

So, if you have some expired coupons, donate them to help out military families.
